Repair Panel for Rear Subframe bush?

    Hi People,

When I was replacing the rear subframe bushes this weekend I discovered that one of mountings was a bit swiss cheese on the underside of the car. Not only that but the "repair" had been done with gaffer tape sprayed with underseal. Quality! No surprise then that all the washers were the wrong way round.

Anyhow I looked on rimmers and paddocks to see if they did a repair panel to slot in but I cant find one. Maybe I am being a numpty and missing it. So does anyone know if there is a repair section for the rear subframe mounting on the underside. Effectively its the mounting circle itself which is recessed , and the flat piece in front of it that goes onto the chassis rail. Im not sure if Ive described that too well!

She was due a ticket this weekend , so this has put the mockers on that, unless I go down the stuff a bit of fibreglass in it and keep them talking route.

Sounds like one of the areas being repaired on a Stag here:http://www.amrestorations.co.uk/news.php Scroll down to Truro Stag and look at the photos.

Have you got a pic Andy, I'm not sure where you mean? Is it the end of the subframe where the large circular rubber bush sits and is secured by long bolts that come through from a hole in the rear seat pan?

Yeah Paul . the long boly drops through a hole then into the bush. Where the bush rests against the underside of the floor is shot . along with the metal in front of it. Im not sure gaffer tape is regarded as a permanent fix!

I guess it is the area as mentioned by Dave and Paul above. This is a real nasty area to repair unfortunately and no repair panel is available unless you can get a good second hand section.

I sold my 1st Stag recently that had severe rot in this area, see pic below. I was lucky though as I was able to remove the relevant cross-beam from a near rust free (damaged) shell from Martin Dimmock. I never did weld it up, but did pass the beam on for the new owner to sort out.

Dave do they line these repairs up using a jig? I would of though it would effect the rear tracking if the subframe mountings were not aligned.

There are pictures of jigs in the ROM just curious as to how the pro's do it!

Not in the area you're looking at it isn't

Would need an inner sill though drivers side. Passenger side is good. With that new welder you'll be able to knock up a repair panel in no time.....

Good question. I haven't visited the workshop for several months, but I do speak to Andy occasionally so I'll ask him. I do know he always has several Stags in the workshop, so taking measurements from another one is seldom a problem. He also has all the necessary manuals for factory measurements.

if you look in the cheese thread, your see how i repaired that area, how bad is the rust,up under the mounting there's a reinforcing bracket that can rust as well, but its hard to get access to that area,is the rear chassis leg ok, or has that rusted as well, paddocks sell rear chassis legs, but not the area for subframe mounting, where are you ? i have an old rear subframe mounting panel, that i used to make a repair panel from,so could make up another if it any help
