    Replacing the Rear Light lens

    Hi all,
I'm just about to swap over a cracked rear light cover - do I have to take the lamp assembly out from inside the boot and dismantle or is there an easier way ..? I just don't want to crack this lens.....

Just cleaned the lens and reflector on the rear of mine...
There are 4 notches 2 along top, 2 along bottom. and the pointed end has a protrusion that sits under the chrome holder also.

Andy its a 2 minute job to get the light out from inside the boot, 3 bolts IIRC. I'm useless at electric's so I always label the wires when i take stuff off

The lenses are loose inside once the outer clear cover is removed

Cheers Goldstar - sounds like a plan - I wasn't too sure whether I could go from the outside or not..

You can go from either side..
Inside, unscrew the plastic cover and pullout the bulb holders
or outside, remove the plastic lens...

The plastic lens will become brittle over time.

No wires per say from the inside, just bulb holder.

                Andy,

If you are just changing the outer lens it can be done from outside. There is nothing to be gained by removing the light unit. The old lens is probably brittle and may crack further, but as you are replacing it that doesn't matter. Just take care when inserting the new one. Pointy end first, then feed the four lugs in carefully using a wide blade to squeeze the lens slightly. Best to do it when it is warm so that the new one doesn't crack also.

When refitting mine I wasn't happy with the way it seals depending on those lugs so I ran a small bead of clear silicone around the outside . A steady hand and masking tape and it doesn't notice but gives you extra reassurance .
