    Hard Top

just out of pure curiosity what time of year do you put your hard tops on, or do you leave the soft top on all year, I for one put mine on towards the end of October; I always find it's like driving a new car and works as a bit of a novelty for a while.

As the wife is a weakling and cant lift it, it stays in the shed all year. I actually liked the look of my car with the hard top on too!

I haven't got a hardtop. The Mrs and I followed an XK 150 (I think) into Goodwood on Saturday. The driver and passenger were wearing leather flying helmets. We had a look on the stands at the show and the cheapest ones we could find were £60, and flying jackets were about £400. I know I could get a hard top for £400 or so, but I am reluctant to because I think it would spoil the occasional autumn/ winter/spring open top experience. It is more of an issue for daily users though

Al, My wife is clear on this subject - She would rather die than wear a leather flying helmet. I have the complete 'Biggles' outfit of jacket and helmet, standard issue with my Lotus 7, and they are very cosy but deeply uncool!

Your hardtop must be a good fit then. Mine used to be much noisier with the hard top on than with the soft top up.
I now have no need of a hard top but have stored it where it could be redeemed if ever necessary.

I think i asked this question last year.... i ended up not bothering with the hard-top at all over winter, the soft-top coped admirably with daily use.

The advantages of the hardtop would be the extra light from the rear windows, heated rear screen and sense of security. Down-side is that it is damn heavy to lift on/off

I am in the process of refurbishing my hard top it has only been on the car once in my ownership and that was when I drove it home the first time . The car was bought as a rolling restoration and if I may say so my self now lookspretty dame good ,the only big job left to do is the hard top (except for the wish list 4 speed box ect ect ect )The problem I have at the moment is the hard top is actually ready for spraying but because I am doing it myself in my garage I can only spray it when the weather is nice and if the weather is nice I am out in the stag catch 22 I believe they call it .

I have finally sprayed my hard top ready for winter .I am in the process of compiling a list of things I need to get from paddocks to put it back together, ie clips for the chrome , new rear window rubber headlining, the old one had been painted black by the previous owner for some unknown reason .I also need new trim boards but paddocks don't list then and rimmers say not available has anyone got any suggestion as to what I can use or where I can get some .....thanks

Speak to Brian Turner on 01622 884302. He rebuilt my hardtop and will surely have an answer on this.

I'm suprised that no one has produced a glass-fibre hard top for the Stag.

Both scarcity of the originals and the weight issue would both be in its favour.

Rimmers did list a Lenham fiber -glass top but I believe they are nolonger available

About this time of the year normally, except for the last three years it's been sitting in the garage waiting for me to fit a new headlining following its re-spray. As that's really a summer or very warm garage job it'll probably wait for another year or so. Just hope I can remember which chrome screw when where.

I really like driving the Stag with the hardtop on. Gives it a much different feel. Wonder if I could get it upstairs into the spare bedroom?
