    carb overflow problem :(

got a bit of a problem I'm struggling with, the right hand carb keeps overflowing, previous to my engine build they were fine I have taken them off again and checked float level and they seemed fine so put them back on and was OK for a few minutes now overflowing again! so much that fuel is weeping through the choke spindle and dripping down which is not a good thing!! cut off valve for fuel inlet was fine. maybe I need to fine tweak the float? other than that I'm stumped

Try adjusting the float level again. it sounds like it's set too high.

so working with the carb upside down on bench does the 16-17mm gap need to be bigger or smaller? bit confused

only thing other than that I can think of is I damaged the float when I cleaned them or bent the tab out.. it runs a bit rough too since before..

Mine did exactly this. While the carbs were off some muck must of got in the fuel lines. Took the float bowl off the offending carb, unscrewed the float valve, blew out with air line, reassembled and touch wood it seems to be OK now.

Sounds even more like the float/fuel level then,

all fixed (I think!) now, adjusted the float level a few mm's and it hasn't done it since.. it was pretty bad to be honest, fuel was getting everywhere and even in the air filter there was a pond the needle valve was fine before so had to of been something I did whilst cleaning bowls out, most likely I bent the float level bracket!

since I fixed that it runs a damn site better too, must have been throwing it down the bores!!
