Removal of exhaust manifolds any tips from those experienced??

It is still cold in the minus 20C bracket and loads of snow so Stag will be sleeping for quite a while yet,I do have a heated garage though so deciding on removal of both exhaust manifolds on my 73 Mk2 and have them ceramic treated. The manual says just remove the 7 bolts on either side and the 3 in each exhaust connection, but is that all, does anything else need to come off to gain access to the "7 bolts".

Any tips or suggestions would be gratefully accepted,I do have the screw on oil filter and the hi torque starter fitted on my car, does that make any difference??

    Hi Robin,

We have family in Ann Arbor MI, so can appreciate how cold it is out there in The Lakes region just now.

It does depend on how easy the bolts come out. The exposed section of thread can get corroded and make undoing them a bit tedious. One or two of the ones underneath the RH manifold are very difficult to get to and may only be undone half a flat at a time, so patience, and plenty of PlusGas, is the key. For most of the bolts a ratchet spanner is very handy once you get them moving.

Thanks Dave, from the picture of your car except for the Rt vs Lt steering wheel, we are the Bopsy twins, mine is also signal red.So may I gather that nothing has to be removed to gain access to all 14 bolts, which will be a blessing if that is a fact.

Anyone else had their manifolds ceramic treated ???

Maybe the pics in post 52 of this thread may be able to help a bit

Thanks Drew, the pictures are great looks different when the engine is out, looking at the pictures of both sides I assume then that I can reach around the starter and access all the bolt heads, so as to remove both manifolds and put them back on when ceramic treated??

            Thanks
