    Anti Freeze

Hi, just about change the coolant so went on the Halfords web site and they have a selection tool which suggest Silicate for the Stag, no idea what this is so has anyone used this and is it ok for the Stag Engine. Do I need to flush out the engine before using this.
    Thanks
    Steve

always a good idea to flush out coolant once a year, I used Comma Antifreeze Super Coldmaster SCA5L @ £15.59 inc post off eBay, good value I thought. you don't want to use pink/red oat spec antifreeze. no idea what Silicate is?

Don't do it. Get good old-fashioned blue ethylene glycol based antifreeze and mix it 1:2 with water.

If you must get it from Halfords it looks like their Comma Xtream G40 is Monoethylene Glycol.

Shop the latest Comma G40 Antifreeze and Coolant Concentrate is an ethylene glycol based antifreeze at Halfords UK

Steve , if you goggle silicate antifreeze you will find a site that reveals all .The site is machinery lubrication the anti freeze is green and apparently coats the inside of the cooling system with a protective coating. Sounds good to me you can subscribe as I have done and they will send you a mag.

        All the best.
        Michael.

Thanks very much for the info it just seems that there are to many options, so is the best to flush the engine removing the thermostat and bottom hose and then flushing with a hose.
                Cheers

Whenever you flush it is THOROUGHLY ADVISIBLE to remove the block plugs.

Do a search on here for block plugs, or block drain plugs.

                  Cheers
