    Hi Terry,

I knew I only had single points, so it made sense to go for a single points electronic system. Wrong!

I think you are right Chris, a twin points body with an early plate. No vacuum advance either! Thinking about it though for the vacuum advance the top plate pivots side to side using the peg at the bottom. That surely wouldn't work with an electronic ignition (I know what I mean anyway)

I know what you mean, but it should work if the geometrical position of the pick up was right i.e. pickup positioned centrally opposite pivot point and there was enough gap between rotor and pick up to prevent fouling on the ends of the arc, if you know what I mean .

That was my concern, there seemed to be a 4mm 'swing' when I removed the screw that locked it. It would need to be a fair sized gap.

What would the effect be without vacuum advance (I must admit I have never really understood it), the car appears to run OK without it? Is there anywhere where I could get the top and bottom 'twin points' plates, that seems to be the only way forward.

The car should run a lot better with a proper working vacuum advance. You can get replacement base plates from various suppliers. If not I can get you a set.

Thanks very much for your help Chris.

The vacuum advance appears to be knacked as well, so I think a new distributor will be needed. The Stag is running ok at the moment, so I think I will leave it until I am in the UK next.
