This is a man who has been world champion on 2 and 4 wheels he is English and the only man that has ever achieved this. If you believe he is not entitled to a knighthood when you consider who has been bestowed with this title I would really like to know why?? Come on guys lets try to make a difference. I love cars but have never really been in to motorsport so Surtees is just a name I know and not much more to me, I'm afraid.

Totally agree though that tnere are plenty out there with undeserved titles Talking of which, I've just been watching Sir Humphrey Appleby in Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister- BRILLIANT viewing.

+ another. John Surtees' achievements are totally unique and very unlikely to be ever repeated. Others tried to follow in his footsteps, e.g. Mike Hailwood, but even in his own era no one else could ride bikes and drive cars even close to the same world championship level. Tragically, he lost his is son to a motor racing accident only a few years ago. But as Julian has observed, there are plenty of well-deserving people who miss out on the honours system. Couldn't be anything to do with who you know could it, by any chance? No of course not, silly me!

Done. Top Bloke, one of the greats. I recall seeing his first Team Surtees F1 car in the Brands (I think) paddock - everyone was commenting how well engineered & finished it was.
I thought the telly program was pretty well done too.
