    Replacement of Soft Top

Hi, My soft top is looking a bit worse for wear. How difficult is it to replace or is it just better to get somebody to do it? I live in the midlands and need to know which direction to go for the best result at the best price.

I think there are some changes to the frame as the MKI frame has to accomodate the rear quarter window that isn't present on the MKII. As far as I know, both frame types fit both MKI and MKII's. I am sure someone more knowledgable than me will be able to confirm (or dispute:shock this.

          Regards

            Hi Dave,

I have since found out that according to Rimmers catalogue, both types fit either Mk1 or Mk2. The frames are the same, only difference in the hoods is the quarter light windows in the mk1.

Try Don Trimming in Erdington, they came highly recommended to me.

All the prices are on the web at, www.donhoods.com

Also try Dave Haden Upholstery at the rear of 59 High St, Walsall Wood. Dont know if he does hoods but its worth a try.

              Simon.

The Mk1 frame originally had a uselessswinginghook on the drivers sidefor securing the rearsection when folding it down into the hood well. If it still has this then change it for a sprung latch as onthe other side(part no. 631681).

If you don't you will end up with the frame jamming in the well.

Martin, i plan to have Aldridge fit a new hood to my car, hopefully next month. If you can wait until then i'll give you feed back. They come highly recommended and apparrently trim the hood to fit the car!

My Tonneau came from Aldridge & a tonneau is a much cheaper alternative to a softop.

Terry, I think you missed a part of your sentence - ...if you live in country where you dont need a roof most of the year

                          Hi

I had my hood replaced by South East Trimmings in Kent yesterday. A long drive, but an excellent hood that fits perfectly. They advertise in the SOC mag - their number is 01795 522588 or 07931 507879. Although they do trimmings for other cars, most of their work is on Stags. They charge £720 to supply a reconditioned frame, new mohair soft top AND fit it.

                            Henry,

do you have any pictures of the hood, inside or out, or ideally both? My hoods distinguishing feature, the duct tape lining, split a bit more today and I can see me getting a new one sometime soon..
