    Gear change Auto

    Hi all
just got my stag up and running after buying it 3 weeks ago

    its an auto.
The thing is when I put her into gear there is a big clunk and she's in gear
    Is this normal

    Thanks
    Kyri

    Hi Kyri,
It's normal, it even mentioned something about it in the original handbook. Just check the gearbox oil as per the instructions, there are a couple of methods for doing this,on here, just search the posts,,also makes good bedtime reading.
note-Some of the more well off owners have put 'zf' gearboxes in their Stags,,I'm not jealous really,,just saving up should mine go altogether, ha ha.
    Ken.

Tickover a tad high can do this, plus if there is a lot of wear/backlash in the drivetrain it will sound worse. But usual culprit is too high a tickover speed.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

It shouldn't be that much of a clunk, what is the idle speed when fully warmed up, ideally you should have 750-800 rpm.

Agree that it is the tick over too high, but really for a smooth engagement with the BW35 box you need the tick over as low as possible. Mine is around 550 to 600 rpm.At that speed there isn't much of a clonk.

They use a Jaguar ZF box. Tate and Lewis and Monarch (who sell T&L).

As been said if the tick over is too high obviously you will never get gentle gear selection. I find 600 rpm tick over spot on with no jolt or bump. Having said that there is nothing wrong with a good jolt or bump

will need to drop the idle to around 600 and see how it goes
