    Rear Axle

I was informed by the Garage that there is some movement on one of my rear axles.
to make the Job simple I was just going to replace the whole assembly.

Any recommendations where to buy a complete part and what to look out for?

I'm not quite sure what they are referring to by 'rear axle' - with its independent rear suspension, a Stag doesn't have a complete rear axle as such.

The phrase 'Rear axle' is often used (even in the ROM) to refer to the diff/drive shaft etc. It is like the word 'chassis' is also often used whereas the Stag doesn't have a chassis, as such, but it is used to refer to the underside, including chassis legs etc

I suspect they are referring to one of the rear hub assemblies or drive shafts ? I've attached a diagram to give you the idea. Maybe you could clarify

    Cheers

    Julian

This is what I'd call a rear axle:

Probably talking about a rear wheel bearing

        Thx for the pics.

looking at the haynes manual page 105. the garage told me to order parts 44 to 50 on fig 8.3.this is the outer and inner hub bearings. not sure it they come as a kit and how easy it is for the garage to fit. My idea was to try and buy a complete stub shaft with the hub all attached to make it simple.

Steve. Fitting a new rear wheel bearing will require special equipment, particularly to free off the hub from the shaft. It may be simplest to get a rebuilt hub and fit it to your drive shaft by disconnecting it at the universal joint. However, it may only be necessary to take up the slack in the old bearing. I have done this successfully several times, provided the old bearings are not showing any other signs of wear.

I think I will go for the replacement hub Approach. Labor is so expensive over here, this will probably be the cheapest solution even with the shipping.
