    Using Dishwasher to clean parts

    Hi
Am considering using the Dishwasher to clean some aluminium parts and nuts/bolts, light lenses (separate wash) etc.
Has anyone used this before and if so did you use normal dishwasher cleaning detergent, or some other degrease etc?
Also anything that has avoided any giveaway oil smears stains, marks in machine afterwards to swmbo
    Thanks in advance

A mate of mine washed a Chevvy V8 engine block in a dishwasher some years ago.

He said it came out quite well, but the dishwasher was never the same again.

Tried a couple of SU carb bodies last year for the Herald.
Seemed to work, removing the bulk of the crap.
Try it at your own risk, 'er indoors might be a little upset.
      Cheers

When I was racing motocross I used to regularly whack crankcases and barrels through the dishwasher. Just run an empty cycle with another tablet in it to flush away the evidence/ make it smell normal. I did used to jet wash em with a quick degrease first though! Ally parts come up great. Well crankcases do , but they arent polished of course.

I used the dishwasher to clean the rear light lenses. It seemed to work quite well and I didn't get caught....

          Cheers,
          Mike.

I did the inlet manifold and some other ally bits a while back - works well and on the basis she uses the washing machine for washing horse related objects I don't get any complaints!

Just watch out that the alkaline dishwasher tablets don't eat away at your aluminum parts. Light lenses and steel parts are okay.

I often clean parts of old radios in the dishwasher. Mind you, there's a new £1000 Miele going in next week, so that one might be off limits!

The Mrs makes me laugh. If I paint a small car part in the kitchen I get oh what an awful smell can't you do that outside. I then remind her of nail varnish. Now that stinks x3 women in our house and the remover is worse. Use the dishwasher but have the excuse ready or from now one all women (and some men) will have to do the nail varnish outside.

I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!

Did my lights lens, came up well, but she got the hump when it cured the paint on my power steering pump at 30 degs, fan oven setting.
