    fuel tank pics

    Hi any 1 got pics/ diagram of fuel tank set up incl the filter in boot.
    There is a certain way the filter is set up. ie one end there is labelled in

    Hope you guys understand what im trying to explain

            That's how things were when we bought the car. The previous owner went through some modifications he'd done to the cooling system (which we've now undone) but he'd didn't mention the fuel system so I'm assuming it's the original set up.
            This is not just a Stag, this is a Mimosa Stag - well it will be soon.

              The set up as shown by Clive is correct.

              The fuel filter is fitted in the vent pipe and is only there to trap fumes so it doesn't really matter which way round it is fitted.

                    Also thanks to Clive for the pictures which were of interst as I am about to replace the pump.

                    However I find that I do not have a vent pipe at all! Also whilst there is a small tubular spigot on the filler cap unit it is not as large as the vent tube in the photo and is only about 1/2" long. It appears to have been blocked off by some sort of sealant.

                    Furthermore this "vent" is connected to the external bowl of the filler and is thus before the cap seal and if it were connected to a vent pipe would only drain overfill or drips at the filling station

                    Can someone comment on this arrangement . The filler cap looks externally like a normal stag one and is opened with the same key that locks the doors. Is this due to model differences -mine is I'm told a Mk1.5

                      I have fitted a small filter between tank and pump, I figured that it is a better position as any crud will come from the tank and straight into the filter rather than enter pump then travel up to engine bay filter.

                        You should have a tube (150835) connected to the filler bowl drain connection that exits through a hole where the bottom of the rear wing meets the deeper parts of the boot floor, this dumps any split fuel on the road or on your shoes if you stand to close

                              I set mine up using that system, but I could never see the logic of possibly dumping fuel on the floor. Surely it would work just as well by blanking off the vent pipe?
