Which sadist invented these little buggers? The first one pinged on after hours of fiddling. Now I can't get the second one on. Any tips?

Get a suitably sized socket, place it over the clip and give it a tap with a hammer.

I know, what is wrong with a simple bolt to hold the sucker in? PITA! I also found the bleed nipples a fiddle to open and shut whilst bleeding...

These are the same on the MGB which I have had the same problem, however a excellent web site by Paul Hunt has a considerable number of tips which are also relevant to the Stag.
Try this for a tool for fitting the clip http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/eclip.htm , I made one and it works very well

I borrow one from my neighbour. So much easier than hunting around the depths of the garage to find where the clip disappeared to.
