    Renovo

    Any experienced Renovo users ?
My soft top was a bit faded and had some white marks. I have cleaned it with the "soft top canvas cleaner" which didn't quite work the way I thought it would having read the destructions. Have now put the suggested two coats of Reviver/reconditioned on. Definitely darker, good. Unfortunately leaves marks where you have tried to do it in "panels" as it says. Bottle says 1 litre should be enough for two coats. I have put two, what I think are generous coats on, still have more than 1/2 litre left, will probably get a third coat on, might then be closer to 1/2 litre left.
Problem is, the fabric has gone from a smooth feel, when rubbing you fingers over it, prior to Renovo products, to feeling like 80 grade sandpaper after ?????

I would be interested in this subject as I am thinking of doing mine in blue as it has now faded to light grey

My hood is dark Blue, I used the Blue reviver with no issues and it looked great afterwards. to get an even coat and streak free finish you have to follow the instructions to the letter. Probably best done by 2 people, one each side, starting from the centre line of the hood.

I can't say I had an issue with the feel of the fabric and it has lasted about 4 years now although it needs doing again really. The window polish is very good as well but again you must follow the instructions for a good result.

Graham, I'm not really sure that it would work well to change the colour though. I would ask them first.

Another tip is mask up all the glass and body work, it flicks everywhere when applying it. I found out the hard way

I have recently bought Fabsil as it was recommended on here and as I have 2 soft tops to do, I purchased a gallon.

Because of 'patchy' finish, I wonder if a small roller would work as it is quicker than a brush, having said that, what size brush did any of you use?

I have used Volvo own make and it is a very sticky substance and not easy to put on at all and a sponge is used to dab it on.

              Jeff.

Renovo say to use a 2" brush IRRC.

Fabsil doesn't state size, just a brush or spray and to maintain a 'wet' edge (most paints are like that anyway), hence the patchy finish if allowed to dry.

My Stag hood is not the best so I will try a small roller, not yet.

Had a reply from Renovo, clearly I failed to realise they have Royalty working for them. AnyONE else emailing them bear it in mind.
                    Hi,

                    Thank you for your enquiry.

It is not usual for ones soft top to feel rough after using Reviver,(as you describe in your email), although it can sometimes happen.
Usually one can attribute the rough feeling to dust/dirt that was not diligently removed prior to applying Reviver. You could try cleaning the soft top again with Renovo Soft Top canvas Cleaner to see if this would help.
One should not achieve join lines with Reviver if the working edges are kept wet during application.

                    Kind Regards,
                    Customer Service
Okay so one feels admonished for being a silly boy. One is tempted to reply - one can stick ones email where ones sun does not shine (except in ones mind clearly). One oneders however that one may not have or share ones diligent sense of humour..

Just be careful if you use the dye / colour that it does not leak through and permanently stain the beige interior. When I did mine I was warned when the cleaner showed wet on the inside so I avoided re staining it and just re proofed it.

I did mine a few years back now - it did feel slightly rough, but only because it felt stiffer too, if you see what I mean... I'll second the advice to mask the paintwork and glass, it's horrible stuff to get off! I also have little lines of black dots on the inside now where it seeped through the stitching... I did mine in the shade, one of us on either side and working fast to make sure we kept a wet edge and it dried with no tidemarks.

Oh, and congratulations Peter on yesterday's win at the New Forest run :-)

                            Update.
Have now put the required two coats of proofer on and all is smooth again.
A couple of people said they were going to do this, a few tips from my experience. If you can get help and both do one side so much the better. If not you will have to work fast to keep wet edges to avoid join lines. Unfortunately working fast means more fly off from the brush. The Reviver dye can be cleaned off glass with an ordinary window paint scraper. Masking the paint work is an absolute must, this stuff dries ON CONTACT with paintwork !!! The bottle says start in the middle and work outwards, why you need another to help, otherwise you could end up running round and round the car working outwards from the middle, like an increasing Catherine wheel !!!
                            Good luck !
