    diff oil leak

Hi All, I am new to this just having got my Magenta Stag after waiting 9 months for the renovation. So I will have a lot of questions to ask over the coming months.

I have a small oil leak from the diff. My local garage has had a look and said it is the pinion oil seal but they have said that changing it may not cure the leak or indeed it could make it worse. Has any one got any experience of changing the seal, does it cure the leak? If I had the seal changed, is there any other parts worth replacing while the diff/prop shaft is parted?

It could be the breather blocked its on the top right of the diff.

I stand to be corrected but (as pollystag says) if the breather is blocked then this increases pressure in the Diff which can be such that it blows the seal outwards and also strips the bearing of grease. There is another concurrent thread on this forum concerning Diff whine some of which is relevant to your problem.

Thanks for the info, have looked at a thread from October which has a picture of the breather, is it easy to reach in situ and how would you unblock it, is it a matter of "poking" something in it?
