Dartford Crossing Charge

On the 9th. April, I used the Dartford crossing three times, twice in the Stag and once in my Mondeo. This was the first time I had used the crossing since the new payment method came into force. I had opened up a Dart-charge account registering the Stag and the Mondeo. Unlike the Mondeo, the details of which came up automatically when entering the registration number, the Stag details had to be entered manually. Having done these three journeys my account still only shows the Mondeo crossing and not the two journeys of the Stag. I have not received any communication about non payment of a crossing charge. I looked on the website for payment exemptions and I found that there is exemption for vehicles that do not pay road tax because of driver disability. My Stag is tax free being a historic vehicle and not because of any disability on my part. So does this mean that our historic Stags, that do not pay vehicle tax, are also exempt from the Dartford crossing charge? Has anyone else experienced this?

Be careful you don't end up getting fined. My Wife is disabled and her car is tax free because it is registered as such and as a result is exempted from the congestion charge. But I don't think Historic class is exempted.

The congestion charge would have their own rules regarding exemptions. I have never gone through London since the congestion charge. A friend of mine who drove to work in London had the congestion charge exemption because of disability due to chronic asthma. Have a look at their website.

Going over to Kent at about 7.00am, coming back at about 1.00pm. Strange that neither of these journeys are logged.

Dont forget its free at certain times. I have to go down to Sussex to see the outlaws and get billed on the way down but free on the way back. It could be a discount on certain colours

It's free after 10pm until 6am, but at busy times the cameras seem to struggle to pick out number plates.
Were you hiding between a couple of lorries?😉

Whats the position with regards to LEZ? My diesel Focus apparently doesn't meet the standards, but a Stag?

I went through the crossing back in January, the barriers just lifted and two months later I got a demand. So how exactly does the new system work? I'm wondering if there is like a honey trap for people unfamiliar with the way it works.

I evaded the fine by paying straight away but how much does it cost for them to do a search and then send the notification in terms of both materials and person-hours?

There are signs showing the website and the need to pay for the crossing, and they reduce the speed limit to give you time to read them.

Just a thought Rod, have you changed to black and silver plates on the Stag? Some cameras struggle without the reflective background and can't pick out the plate from the car shapes i.e. the front grille. As it has only a brief time to clock it, it may not see you as a car but a motorcycle as they don't have front plates, and bikes are free I think. Either that or the camera thinks it has missed a plate character because of your 50s/60s format registration....
