Diff nose

After a total extension bearing failure (only inner and outer races left, fortunately no other damage) I took the opportunity to reinforce the nose piece. I then cut and fitted 4 5mm webs which I then Tig welded into place and replaced the front diff seaI. also did the spare 3.7 diff (3.45 fitted) and replaced both extension bearings with new SKF ones. I doubt the 3.7 will go back in as I am happy with the 3.45 behind the 8 spd man od.

Any fracture that will be terminal/dangerous while driving will be on the bottom of the nose extension not the top, a crack at the top will close up as that is the way the forces are acting.

Mine is welded at the bottom not the top for that reason. Other opinions are available

No, fairly easy to get out. Impact gun will assist a lot and beware the nut on the quill shaft is torqued to 120 lbs ft so you'll need some oomph to get it off if you don't have one and a hefty torque wrench to assemble. richardthestag has a video on YouTube showing disassembly after removal from the car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-N21WSpVBE&t=1419s
