... maybe a cursory glance at the link a smart ass posted earlier could provide answers?

He has checked stock and there are definitely two different types of bright trim which share the same part numbers. A large aperture and a small aperture. The rubber seal changed at T2909, but in two different official BL publications the part numbers are depicted both as:

    812785 up to Body T2909
    820772 from Body T2910

    and as

    820772 up to Body T2909
    812785 from Body T2910.

The trim must have definiitely changed at that time too. As the problems occur quite a lot, I guess that, although only 2909 cars left the factory in the early configuration, the spares batch of early trims and seals had already kicked in and they have found their way onto various later cars during the life cycle.

Toby has picked out two good trims for me and so that seems to be sorted - again many thanks to all of the offers made above!

He also allowed me to VERY CAUTIOUSLY mention that Rimmers are looking in to rubber profiles to see if they can get an early model (wide rubber flap) seal tooled up. This is only at the very beginning, so no need to badger Rimmers in the near future please! What a good bunch of lads!
    The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

Ian, Dave. The seal was bought from Davis Manners along with the windscreen. I was actually worried about the screen not fitting, if the curve wasn't correct but it fits beautifully! I have emailed photos of the seal with the trim next to it to Manners who are going to contact their supplier. I'm not going to be able to work on it now for the next 3 weeks due to work and other commitments

Dave, I could do that but knowing my luck it will come off at 70 mph! I'll try to source the correct seal, at least I got my money back

I have ordered a new seal from Baines. I asked them to measure the piece of seal where the chrome fits and they say it's around 15mm so we will see. £25 for the seal £11.50 postage

Bought a new seal from Baines who said the lip for the trim was around 15mm, it's closer to 12 mm. Any way, out with the screen again, cleaned up and fitted new seal to the screen. Then tried to fit the trim to the seal, very difficult on your own with only 1 pair of hands, note to the Gods, can you please evolve us into having 2 pairs of hands and an extra elbow, thanks.

              Sorry, digressed.

Gave up on fitting the trim while off the car so fitted the screen to the car, nice fit but now struggling to get the trim on. One side is almost on. Think I'm going to use silicon too when fitting the trim.

At the moment it's 2-0 to the windscreen, I had to give up due to bad temper!
