Steering Rack Gaiter Alternatives?

I need to renew mine but seeing as most of the current rubber items seem to be a waste of time, was wondering if anyone has used a modern alternative off a more recent or current car?

Are there any 'universal' gaiters out there that fit?

Kieth, the ones I got from Paddocks when I rebuilt a replacement rack seem to be holding up well. must be over 4 years ago now I did it

Ahh! Thanks for that guys, in mind of the recent discussions re rubber items I just assumed (incorrectly!) that everything was c**p!

Will order a pair........ although I hope they are a better fit than the exhaust front pipes that they sent me a couple of weeks back

Just finished putting the gaiter on. Went on ok, a bit hard to get on at the rack end, but it should be a snug fit. Took longer than expected due to the ball joint coming of the track rod minus the nut!! which was rusted on. Jonathon

When I've done new gaiters in the past, I have jacked the front up (carefully put on axle stands) and with the key in the ignition (only to allow the wheels to move side to side without the steering locking), put masking tape around the threads on the where the rack joins the outer ball joints (to reduce amount of re tracking later) and undone the rack rods by spinning them out of the ball joints with mole grips - thus avoiding removal (and usually replacement.....) of the outer ball joints
