    Stainless & Slick

    Had a double whammy yesterday.

First of all and FYI, whilst driving along a dual carriageway I heard a tinny clattering noise sort of behind the car. Looked in the mirror and to see the car behind drive over and flip up a strip of metal that I didn't remember seeing or driving over. At the next stop I had a look and found that the n/s stainless sill cover had gone AWOL.

To even things up I took the o/s cover off today. Although there was evidence of some sort of wax having been applied to the inside of the cover there are rust spots starting on the actual sill. From what I can see dirt has got between the cover and sill, formed a ridge or barrier and allowed moisture to collect and do its worst. Fortunately the sills are still sound.

Now for the slick, topped up the oil yesterday and then parked the car nose down on a 1:5 slope. Whilst the car stayed put there was a constant and frequent drip of oil but I couldn't get far enough under the car to see where it came from but am pretty sure it was running down the sump or similar rather than the crank seal.

Later on I parked nose up on the same hill and no drip ! Has anyone got any ideas about where the leak might be given the uphill / downhill scenario ?

    Regards,

    Mark

Could be from the front of the sump if chains have been done and the gasket was damaged refitting the front cover or the front cover crank seal.
