    Unusual sight

    Hi

With only 39 Stags registered (don´t know how many of them in traffic) this is a very unusual sight in Sweden. Two incayellow RHD -77 tv8 ,manual. XLA 341 is mine. The two Stags seems to enjoy each others company. Note the incayellow petrolstation and the yellow postbox in the background...

That's brilliant Bosse, both Stags look great!

I take you got your gearbox sorted eventually, I seem to remember you had some issues with it previously?

    Cheers,
    Joakim

Fab picture - both RHD I notice - when was it that Sweden switched to drive on left to right?

I think it was in '67, Bosse might be able to confirm.

          Cheers,

Yes, it was back in -67 we changed to drive on the right. September third to be exact. Before that we must have been one of the very few countries in the world driving on the left side with left hand cars. Can still remember my dad asking mom if "it´s clear" before making a pass. It must be a miracle that we still are som many pre -67 born alive...

You have a very good memory, Joakim. I had some problem with the OD but it was fixed. And now it works as perfect as the wonderful V8-engine.

            Cheers

You are right I just Googled my question

Surprising therefore that the 2 Stags are both RHD - what is their history? Were they privately imported by UK ex pats? I do remember that Sweden had a fair number of UK ex-pats working there in the 70's

Both are imported from the UK. Mine in 2005. It had the registerplate YNW 95S in UK, and was imported to Sweden by the previous owner who sadly past away in cancer two years ago.

The Stag was never sold as new in Sweden.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that Volvo produced (superb) RHD cars for the Swedish (and thus UK and Eire) markets until well into the 60's indeed until the decision to switch was made in Sweden?

                        Thanks for the information.

Your Stag must have been one of the last -the S final character indicates a UK registration date of late 1977 - 78

HersnotHis: Yes, you are right about Volvo producing (superb) right hand cars for UK and Eire market, but never for the Swedish market. The "is it clear-question" was asked in a Volvo Amazon (probably called 121 in UK)

My Stag was first registered in february -78 in UK so you are absolutely right about it being a very late Stag.

Many thanks for interesting dialogue/info, The 120 series Volvos are also best known here as Amazons. ( A car definitely ahead of its time!)

Wow! Only 39 in the entire country yet two arrive next to one another perfectly by chance.

That can't happen by random very often even in the UK!!
