Mk1 & mk2 steering columns ........ Are they the same item please??

Hi all,
As the title suggests really. Can anyone please confirm to me that the mk1 & mk2 steering columns are one and the same item please? I have a mk1 with a column in need of refurb, a supposedly usable item on fleabay says from a mk2 but ok for a mk1. It would be handy to swap over while i sort out my unit.
As always any advice would be appreciated,

they are fine to to swap about gord ive done just that with mine last year before i drove to lemans ,overhauled a late mk2 unit then swapped out with my early mk 1, its fine as long as i only turn left

Hhhmmm ...... not to sure about that then Steve ........ i was thinking of doing right handers only Seriously though thanks for that, much appreciated. Looks like i may have to splash the cash then. By the way Steve, Adrian in N'pton told me you assisted him with the Cortina - do you take on any mercy projects If so would you let me know or drop me a pm please.
