    It's not Topaz

I thought my car was Topaz, that was what I was sold anyway. I was a bit suspicious that it wasn't Topaz as when I bought some touch up paint it wasn't particularly close in colour. (And Russ didn't think it was Topaz either) Anyway, decided the engine bay could do with a bit of a spruce up ready for the shiny refurbished engine, so decided to get a bit of paint. Took the boot-lid to my local paint shop for matching. It appears to be two pack paint but some old Volvo colour!! What was so difficult about getting the correct paint colour???

I don't have the gear to use two pack so looked for something in cellulose and of course the colour was between two shades so not an exact match, but as it is in the engine bay I am hoping it won't notice too much.. So guess what the closest match was called..........Rust!! So my engine bay will be 'rust' coloured a degree of irony there I think.

    Cheers Keith
My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

          Hi Keith,

Sorry if this is teaching grandmother to suck eggs but most paint suppliers can do a brilliant job of colour matching these days. So, even if your colour isn't Topaz, I'm sure they could make up a colour that would allow you to paint the underbonnet the same colour as the exterior.

I know because my car is somewhere between British Racing Green (which it was when it was new) and Brooklands Green. I've had touch ups made a couple of times now - I call it Brooklands Racing Green .

Maybe you could call yours Topazy

          Cheers

          Julian

I wish I had had that experience Julian. About 2 years ago I went to Went. Thats not an echo or a mistype. I went to a company called LE Went; you probably know they are paint specialists in New Malden. I asked them to try to match the red on my Sunbeam. After producing some impressive looking piece of technology which was duly applied to the paintwork, then ten minutes of head scratching, they concluded that it was a paint code which turned out to be blue. Erm, pardon? Blue. OK, thanks bye.

An hour experimenting with mixing three different shades of cellulose red left overs and I had a good match whch I applied. Unfortunately I dont have any more of it and now need some more. Back to square one.

                  Crikey Chris.

They're not all bad. If I was you I would have went somewhere else

Of course, we can only speak as we find and I have had both good and bad experiences. However the bodyshop that rebuilt my hardtop did such a good job of matching the colour that I cannot tell the difference

                  Cheers

Now you mention you 'went' to Went Chris, that is who I 'went' to. They tried two different analysers, one for cellly and the other for two pack, then got out some good old fashioned samples to check what the analyser said. . Perhaps I need to try somewhere else next time.

                    How about Torust?

I have used LE WENT for my White Stag and got a perfect match maybe because it's a primer, thought I get that quote in before the colour racists get in
