Stag doomed to failure.....a war in Middle East

Carl has introduced the new SOC website in the May mag. A lot of work and yes, it's easy to read and full of information (the dominating Stag colour seems to be yellow?? ).
One question: on the page "A history of the Stag..." I found one detail of Stag failure.......a war in middle east:

I have never heard about this correlation--could some one please explain this detail?

Do you mean the Jom-Kippur war in Oct.1973 and the following 1. oil crises? I remember the empty Autobahnen in Germany.
At that time my 1974 Stag stood 1 year in Düsseldorf in the main Leyland dealer's show room waiting for a brave customer.

How would petrol prices effect the Stag, I mean really ?
The Stag would not be refilling the tank very afton, as I would need to be runnig on the road.
Not laid up in the repair shop.

How many still have their petrol ration booklets? Issued on the basis of the log book, the more you had, the more booklets you got.

Makes no difference to mine, not a bit.

Mind you, I did cringe a little when my local LPG went up to 56ppl. Good job the ZF4 is working well
