    What's missing here??

Well, mine has a pillar attached to the soleplate which fixes the trapieze arm. It looks as though yours is missing the bearing in the arm to locate on the pillar.

It looks like it may be a pantograph arm from a different vehicle. I have checked out a set from a TR7 and they are also of a diffrent style.

That is the arm fitted to the Mk1 cars, and there should be a rubber "Cup" in the ring on the end of the arm, that snaps over the ball on the plate. I doubt if you will be able to get hold of one, as it was always a single assembly. The later type pantograph arm with the hinged joint will fit straight on there, but now you know the price! I'm sure you will be able to buy a second hand one somewhere.

And there'll be a queue of Stag owners trying to buy it......

How about a visit to a good model shop - they use ball-and-socket linkages for all sorts of radio-conrolled toys and it might be possible to adapt something of a suitable size.
Or use a small rubber grommet, fitting into the hole in the pantograph arm, that will fit over the post. Keeping it on the post might be another problem.
