    Anyone tried Gunsons Gastester?

    Hi,

I'm in the market for an exhaust gas analyser for my Stag, I sold my last one a few years ago :-(

The Gunsons one comes up on eBay quite frequently, but is it any good? I tried one of their carburetter balancer things which was totally useless.

    I have one.

I rarely use it as the readings drift around so much. Consider it a tool to "get mixture vaguely in the right area" at best.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

I use it quite a bit and reads 0.5% under the MOT machine.

Just use if for short periods as I think it keeps trying to re-calibrate and drifts around as Wilf implies

I have one. worked fine for me, calibrating it was a faff but once done use it quick or it needs calibrating again. Results were spot on with MoT

balance tool worked great for me also. it is very sensitive so you need to be patient with it.

With only having a single probe, do you check each exhaust pipe?

On mine, the little indicator would stick in various places in the tube when in use, it needed shaking down and then I couldn't hold the venturi device onto the carb inlet, so I'd start all over again and the indicator would stick.....

Tried one, it fell to bits the first time I used it on a Stag due to the exhaust gas temperature..... The pulse pump is held on by a foam sticky pad and the short sample pipe supplied is so short that the heat going through the pump melted the adhesive and it fell off.

Sent it back, got a replacement which did the same within a couple of minutes so sent that back for a refund. It is pretty poorly made to be frank. During the very brief periods it worked, the readings vacillated quite considerably...

You'd be better off bidding on a S/H Bluepoint one off fleabay...

i just stuck the probe up one pipe

rom shows a nice y pipe that fits over the tailpipes to create a single outlet for gas analysers

squirt of wd40 on the pointer or gently file off the burr on the edge of it should have it moving sweetly.
