    Oil pressure?

    Good afternoon all.
I'm looking for some advice on my oil pressure. I've been running my TR8 lump for a couple of years now and it's been fine but I wanted to give her an oil and filter change. On doing so the oil pressure has jumped up to sit between 30 - 40 lb, it was at around 20 lb. is this to high? I don't want to blow all the gaskets. It's Halfords Classic oil which is the right stuff as far as I'm aware.
    Any thoughts?

    Lose the Halfords.

Made by Comma: The formula has changed and is not suitable for the cam- bucket design.

Agree with Paul - bin the Halfords and put in Valvoline VR1 racing 20/50.

Much better oil with proven life and performance in the TV8.

Only worry when your oil pressure exceeds 60psi - the cam chain tensioners get a bit emotional due to the hydraulic element...

With the valvoline vr1 I assume mineral oil?

The racing 20/50 should be the mineral one, but if they give us a choice it is the mineral one you want

Vr1 boosted my oil pressure a bit but just recently I have used a k&n oil filter that Staggard researched and my hot idle has increased by 15 psi to 40psi when it used to be 25psi and motorway speeds have seen a 5 psi increase to 50psi. Very impressed so far thanks Graham for the tip.

What is that K&N filter number Steve? And where did you get it from? I could do with a hot idle pressure boost - don't like it at 20....

I'd be interested in hearing if it makes the same difference for yours Russ as it did for mine. I can only think that it is a lot longer so it lets more oil through which means the the smaller filters must be quite a restriction.
                    cheers Steve

The alternate theory is that the bypass valve within the filter opens at a far lower pressure. So you lose less pressure across the filter medium and see more on the gauge, but............the oil isn't being filtered!

There was a huge oil filter analysis available on the 'net a few years back, darned if I can find it now, but I dimly recall K&N filters were not given a big thumbs up because of this.

Summary - "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch".
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

I believe its the other way around Wilf, Graham did a thread on here about it after doing an autopsy on them both

Yep I think you are right. If I remember there we're two that came out on top the K&N and a WIX filter. I went for the K&N and so far so good.

I take it from this that you are all running spin on / spin off filter conversions? Seems to be mixed opinions about these according to some previous threads? My old girl is still running the original set up, but I've considered changing to make oil changes quicker and easier.
