    VR1 supplies

    Hi chaps

    It would seem that VR1 is getting harder to find - Euro car Parts only have 3 5 litre cans in stock in the country, and my local emporium has had som e issues finding it.

    Just managed to get a box of 4 for £110 delivered next day from fleabay, but now getting worried about further supplies

    Moral is to keep a pot in stock as you may not find it quickly, and buy it when you can find it regardless of immediate need

    Or go back to trusty old Halfords classic.

      I know Russ, this is why I was so upset in spilling most of mine as I had to roder it in

      I wonder why supplies are so bad, demand or EU?

        Whilst this has been covered, many times, in past posts;

        Halfords Classic 20w/50 is formulated by Comma - a perfectly reputable company. However, with the ever changing regulations and expectations (driven, predominantly, by the "green" agenda) oil blending companies can, and do, change their formulas. Halfords Classic underwent such a change some three years ago. This resulted in a significant reduction to some of the "protective" elements e.g. zinc, phosphorous, etc.

        The upshot is that the erstwhile additional protection for high mechanical pressure/friction areas within the Stag engine e.g. camshaft/bucket interface has been removed.

        Don't use it.

              Another top tip is to try and buy the filters that have the pressing on the ends instead of paper gaskets.

                    Btw, I've been topping up with Halfords recently because I had some, is that a terrible thing to do?

                        Depends on what you need to lubricate Jeff - you wouldn't want a masseuse to use EP90, would you?
