    Master light switch sequence of wires 1-5??

    Have just fitted Halogen lights,complete with the relay kit and finally got all to work, however two wiring issues I suspect at either the dip switch or master switch?
    1 All four lights are on at low beam and two outers go to high beam when switch operated.
    2 When I go to turn off the master light switch all headlights stay on.

    Before I bought the 73 Mk2 Stag Federal model, it was 'owned' by an owner who considered himself a 'Master electrician',I now know that he was useless.I have removed the master light switch but cannot find any reference to which # the wires SHOULD connect to, terminals are marked 1-5 with #3 as double,so would assume that handles the parking/side lights, double red and double orange/red

    Would appreciate it if someone could point me in the proper direction as to which wire to which number.

    I can.....in about 2 weeks. I'm away from the car at the moment.
    Does the switch have.. park off side full fog ?
    On mine, '73, the two outer are on dip and all four are on main. Also on park only the left front and rear lights come on, not the cruise lights as would in side light mode ..

    Do you have the wiring diagrams from the workshop book or haines ?

      Hi Robin,

      Do you have a proper Triumph Workshop Manual ? If so, you'll see the numbers shown on there.

      I've only got a very early manual to hand at the moment and in section 86.65.00 it shows the exact layout of the switch and which terminal does what. Also in the wring diagram it shows Terminal 1 - N; 2 - R; 3 RG; 4 - U; 5 - RY.

      As I mentioned, it is an early manual so this is the Mk 1 type lights with a parking light - yours may be Mk 2 ??

      Unfortunately, I haven't got a scanner available at the moment but, if this info doesn't help then come back on here and I may a) be able to find a Mk2 diagram and b) get my scanner working.

        Well first off I will have to admit that I am 74 yrs old,but having spent almost 50 years in the Optical Profession, I am ashamed to admit that yes I do indeed have the manual and did consult it many times BUT I did not realize that there were numbers in the middle of the circles on # 14 the master light switch !!! I went upstairs and picked up the strongest magnifier that we have and managed to finally see them, my manual is dated 1977 so has both Mk1 and 2 details included.In my manual 1 is Brown the main feed to the switch from the battery,2 is Red/Green, 3 is Red,4 is Blue the power to the dip switch unit and 5 is the Red/Yellow wire.My wife checked also and concurs with my numbers as we do differ on 2 and 3 colours you are reversed to those that are in my manual.The number sequence goes anti-clockwise in my book with #1 in the 9.00 oclock position and #2 at 6.00.

        I will hook up the correct sequence tomorrow morning and hope that the lights will turn off in the OFF position and that not all four light will come on when in low beam.

          All lights and switches are working 100% now,but this was after correcting all the wires going to the MLS all now on the correct terminals.Removed the dip etc switch and corrected the wires that the previous owner had reversed then reversed again,blue to red blue then he cold soldered blue on again,with the reverse being done on the red/blue to blue, back to red/blue again. I had enough spare wire from replacing the Halogen lights up front so cut off the two cold solder connections from the switch added two new lengths then soldered them on correctly this time using silver solder.
          With the assistance of my wife telling me how many lights were lit up etc. all now including the relays are working 100%.

          Now what will be the next Stag job that has to be redone but this time correctly.
