    SNG Drive shafts

    Hi Guys
I have SNG drive shafts from 1998 Circa and the CV's are worn.

Any idea where, I can source replacement CV's.

I have a photo of drives, if this is of any help.

    Many Thanks

i emailed Barretts about these, they told me to go to rimmers they didnt know any thing, the only other thing you could try is SC part group LTD, they advertise in club mag, they sell drive shafts may be they may sell you a cv on its own,saw your car up on the ramps at robsport

I remember them, they were made by GKN.
If fact will still have the original advert for them somewhere.

If you don't get any luck with a fix of your current ones, worth considering the ones now available from Alasdair at classicdrivingdevelopment. I saw these at stoneleigh for the first time and thought they looked well engineered.

You mean the same as yours? In which case give the guy a ring and see if he can do something to help you out. He's doing a special production run for me to accommodate a BMW diff rather than the stag diff having had some problems with getting parts from the vendor of the diff conversion (a topic for a future thread).

If you mean the same as the sc ones, then they're not. Major difference is the inboard cv joint is arranged to be as close to the diff as possible which is preferable to reduce side load the bearings in the diff. IIRC price is broadly similar.

Rimmers bought out SNG Barrett, they now concentrate on Jags, If I remember correctly they were the GKN driveshafts.

                    Hi Guys
Yes they were SNG Barratt, spoke to them and they suggested Rimmers, but no joy there either.

See photo as this may clarify the situation.

                      Try GKN direct!
Out of interest, how many miles have they done to wear out?

Almost without doubt these come from a 1600 MG Maestro - there should be a removable spider inside the joint, held on with a circlip. They were derived from the VW Golf, the 1300 and 1600 Maestros all used a derivative of the VW box (it was even marked VW)

Good luck with finding a decent set though, as the 1600 MG was only about for 2 years before the 2 litre EFI model came out using a Honda PG1 gearbox and totally different driveshafts

                            Hi Russ
Many thanks, I will continue looking for a while but, it looks as though I may need to replace these drive shafts.

                            Cheers

What you would be after is the inner joints only - they are the dismantle-able 3 armed spider with needle rollers - looks like they have used one at each end.

                              Good luck though
