i had a issue with my malpassi 85mm filter king the other day and it came about when i decided to change filters . i have been running the paper element type filter and decided to change to the fine stainless mesh type morso for convenience as it can be flushed and refitted . well i removed the old cleaned the glass bowl and fitted the new st/st one upon tightening the knurled bowl nut i started the car and shortly later it leaked so i took the whole unit off as it is difficult to see the seal when fitted, i assembled off the car and refitted all seemed fine anyway went for a run today and when i came back i could smell petrol fumes i opened the bonnet to find fuel peeing down onto my exhaust manifold quickly shut it all down and luckily no harm but close i had missed a hairline fracture in the glass bowl which expanded when warm and could of caused a fire killing my stag .ive removed the unit and refitted the old type filter with new fuel hose while i track down an aluminium replacement bowl instead of glass its know wonder they are not allowed the glass in motor sport . im going to rethink the whole position of the fuel supply under bonnet to try and keep it as far away from the exhausts as possible . so if you have one of these fitted please check them and your fuel pipes .

Hi Steve, I'll try with the photos today. Because the space restriction I had to remove the pressure gauge off the top of the unit but I have refitted it on a bracket mounted on the firewall. I am running an Eidelbrock 500 4 barrel and very pleased with it. I guess by 67or 85 you mean the diameter of the bowl, I'll measure mine.

Hi Steve, I cant find how to load the pictures I took. The method in the forum heading doesn't work. I'll try to describe it. My unit is 65mm. I can't remember if I used the original mounting bracket or fabricated one but I pop riveted it to diagonal brace that runs inside the back guard, very fiddly. It is spaced equidistant between the pump and the inner wheel arch and tucked in so the carpet trim board just covers it. I cut the outlet pipe from the pump and with suitable hose replumbed it through the filter. If I can work out how to send the pictures I will. Hope this makes sense and helps.
Cheers Ian
