Common problem Alex.
More often than not it's the inlet manifold dripping or water pump seal gone.
If it's the inlet manifold try identifying where it's leaking and see if you can pull the bolts a bit tighter but be careful because the threads can give if they haven't been helicoiled, it's surprising how they can need a nip over time, if that fails try some K-Seal.
Sometimes the thermostat bolts need nipping up (be careful again here) also check the jubilee clips on the hoses.

from experience K-seal did absolutely nothing and if it did it would only be buying you a little time until it leaked again. I had water in the vee and it turned out to be a distorted inlet manifold, I took it off and used a bench belt sander to get the mating surfaces perfectly flat, reworked the threads in heads including 1 helicoil and all has been dry as a bone ever since! I used Dirko gasket sealer as it was a little thicker than Wellseal just in-case there was any small imperfections in my sanding!
Bl**dy hell Wilf you said the two forbidden words H****r T**k you really should know better Seriously though mine is the same as yours I just top up a bit more frequently than you. I will sort it one day but it hasn't got any worse since I got my car.
Cheers Rob.
Mine to, I rebuilt my pump last year and used LDParts ceramic seal kit, never leaked a drop. It does require some careful machining of the casting but seems worth the effort.
