    getting the blowers out

Has anyone managed to get both the blower motors out of an a/c-equipped Stag without taking 2/3 of the car apart?

I finally figured out that the cause of my pathetic ventilation is because only one of the blowers is working.. the l/h motor is seized solid. Getting a replacement isn't too much of a problem.. but getting the old one out is!

The WSM says "drop the steering column, line the flats up on the blower motor with the a/c expansion valve, and patiently manoeuver the blower assembly out". I don't know who came up with that.. but "patiently" is most definitelythe wrong word.

    I'm obviously missing something.

Ithink you will find most of the people on this site are UK based so like myself have only ever seen A/C in a stag book, it is a very rare UK option. but why does anyone need A/C in a soft top car (says he who has just put the hard top on)

Haha! I really don't care about the a/c (even though it works) - but if you've got an a/c fitted car, you're stuck with the weird and completely different heater matrix setup. So even if I only want to warm my feet on a freezing December morning, I still need to get the blowers fixed.

Mine was a civilised UK car fitted with factory Aircon . Well it was before I junked all the Aircon stuff.

To remove the fans first remove rad, take out front grille then the rest should be obvious. I don't remember having any problems. Oh and while you are there take out the aircon condensor, compressor, pipes and dryer and put them in a small pile marked 'Scrap' After doing this your car will run cooler, there will be loads of space where the compressor was to fit those nice 4 branch manifolds you always wanted.

I don't miss the Aircon but I do miss the sunshine you get out in your state. - Alan

Well.. after much gnashing of teeth, I got the blowers out.. you do have to drop the steering column and remove (not just disconnect - *remove* all the heater box outlets)..

I wish I'd taken pictures now.. I'll never remember all that. But the problem actually turned out to be pretty simple - the l/h blower was sitting in about 2 inches of mud/grass/dust. I don't think it was home to any nice wire-eating critters.. I think it was more that the intake flap was seized open and the car had just sat outside for a very long time.

Fortunately, the motor itself was still good.. though how, I don't know.. but a good strip down and cleanup and it's now working perfectly.

Misunderstood your original post, I thought your were talking about the 2 blowers (fans) in front of the rad!
Agreed the heater unit in the car is a swine to work on! - Alan

              Haha - I did wonder!
I imagine the ones in front of the rad are several orders of magnitude easier to get at
