Brian's "Rules & Guidance" new posting

Just read Brian's recommendation that we re-read the "Rules & Guidance" Section, and would have liked to post a reply but it is a closed thread so I have started one of my own to express my opinion.

Brian - I did as you asked and have read through the Rules etc., once again as it is a while since I last did so (before I returned to the Forum).

Can't really see anything I dissagree with but I thought the posting of "jokes " was a complete "no go" area, but apparently not in the "Non-Stag related topics" Section, and I quote below 2 paragraphs on the subject from the "General Guidance about posting" Section.

"The Non Stag-related Topics area provides opportunity for other discussions on a wider range of topics. It's also the place for letting off steam (within reason), sharing a joke or a humorous anecdote, (but please don't cut and paste pages from elsewhere), and in a limited way, for putting the world to rights. But do please remember this is a Classic Car Forum, not a substitute for other mainstream forums."

"Humour and wit are to be welcomed and encouraged, and the occasional joke can lighten the mood but do try to keep a balance."

Happy to abide with the new Rules although I have a tendancy to drift "off topic" every now and again when I consider it of benefit to making a thread that bit more interesting and someone else has already made an "off topic" reply, and especially at special times of the year such as Xmas when I feel it does no harm.

In fact one of the reasons I left the Forum after several years of participation was that I did post a couple of inofensive Xmas jokes one December in an attempt to get people into the Xmas mood, but it was frowned upon by a Moderator at the time, which I thought was an over reaction so I left.

I am glad I have returned though, I have missed some of the good banter that used to abide on this Forum, although there is another Forum I now regularly use (not a car one) where everyone is very friendly and good humour and jokes are welcomed in their own particular "Section", as well as it having both "Happy" and "Angry" threads that may have nothing to do with the Forum's main activity, but where you can post "good news" or "rant & rave" about something.

I think having new "Happy" and "Angry" Thread Sections on the Stag Forum might not be a bad idea.

That's why I started a very successful 'rant' thread ages ago.

Check out the visits and posts on it Terry.

A lot of the moderation team felt that the forums shouldn't be just an interactive version of a Haynes manual, and lobbied hard to get the "no jokes" approach changed.

As a result we have for a while had the "Non Stag Related" forum, and have now got round to re-writing the Rules to accord with it. Obviously it is something that needs to be used properly but, in my opinion, it makes the place far less old fashioned and "stuffy".
