    MOT time

Just got back from the mot and on the way there checked the handbrake, ooh that's not very good

At the garage asked the tester if I could adjust the cable a bit while it's in the air on the ramps. Yes, no problem he said.

Anyway, tweaked the adjusters a bit tighter and ended up with a handbrake at 16% - just enough to scrape through for a pass. Phew!

He said it was the nearside rear wheel that has the problem, the same one I had to put adjusters in the other day after our trip to Spa. When I put them on I was able to torque the wheel nuts up with the wheel in the air and the handbrake on. Somethings not working properly after its back on the ground and in use again.

Any thoughts? I'll have to have another look at the weekend.

    Cheers....Al.

Put the stands under the trailing arms so the radius is the same as if it was on the ground. The hand brake leavers (that operate the shoes) have a rivet that tends to wear and elongates the hole in the leaver and reduces the leaverage. Let us know what you find once you have the wheels and drums off.

Ps the hand brake cable should be adjusted with the trailing arms loaded anyway, we wern't able to do that.

Cheers Graham. That's partly why I asked to adjust them when it was on the ramp.

          Hi Graham

The levers are a bit worn, but the main culprit was having the adjusted the wrong way around
I put the one Russ gave me on the same way as the one I took off, so always been wrong!

          Handbrake better now.

          Cheers...Al.
