    overdrive isolator switch?

My stag has a straight six 2500s engine and box. My overdrive hasn't worked since changing the engine, so I decided to have a look ..
no power to solenoid , but when powered it does click.
power to switch and out of it.
so decided the problem must be the isolator , however the switch on the side is for the reversing lamps , and I cant find another switch.
So saying the switch is big and may have had 4 terminals (yet to remove it)
Can anyone tell me if any cars were fitted with a dual switch ?
or where is the other one?
When I removed the lead from the gear lever feed it had a broken terminal stuck in the end {under the car).
The overdrive solenoid is fitted to the n/s of the box - is that a type A ?
    Ideas please !!

If you go to: http://www.buckeyetriumphs.org/technical/technical.htm it will tell you all you'll ever need to know about both A type and J type overdrives.

    Cheers

      Superstar!!
Just had a quick look and can see the isolator is on top of the gear change extension.
Thanks for the info, can get it working now,
      Jules

Whats the best way to get to the top switch. Is it through the rubber grommet under the centre consul ?

Cool. I got heavy with cleaning the oil off the gearbox for MoT and seemed to have knocked a wire off. No Od at mo.

I think you have to lower the back of the gearbox abit to get to switch, don't believe you can get to it by the grommet.

              Sorry

Unfortunately it's virtually impossible to access it via that hole. I have seen cars where another hole, to the right of that one has been cut to access the switch.

However, if it's only a wire off you can, just, get to it from underneath the car with the vehicle up on a lift, if you've got small dextrous hands.

                Cheers

IIRC It's for a workshop pressure gauge or somesuch for doing tests on an autobox.

My switch was fitted last night, the access hole in the tunnel has been modified on mine to a square hole the width of the console and about 2.5 inches front to rear. Has a large plate screwed over it, so changing switch was easy. So saying I did tweak the terminals on the new one to the horizontal so to give more clearance .
Glad to report the overdrive now works perfectly - nice smooth change up and down the box.
Sadly on the way to a show tonight the gremlins struck and the car started to misfire , got worse so stopped and changed the condenser - no improvement.
came home on a friends trailer.
I believe the coil is the cause - it has a nice shiny cover around it- when I took the coil off it was nearly to hot to hold . will fit new coil without shiny cover and hopefully it will dissipate more heat and behave itself.
Next task after that is to adjust and bleed rear brakes , long pedal - mainly I believe due to rear brakes being adjusted by tightening the handbrake cable.
Hopefully will be done by Sunday as due to go on a heritage drive out organised by the Delacy motor club (paid for by a pal whose 1800es I have just got running - Last used in 1987).
                      Will update after Sunday.

When you adjust the rear brakes, remember to disconnect the handbrake cable to let the adjusters 'click up'. Then re-attach the cable, adjusting the length as necessary.

                        Cheers,
                        Mike.
