    List of compatable parts

Have just bought some more bits and pieces from well known suppliers of Stag spares and I never fail to be p....d off at the cost of postage etc. They even make a profit (plus we pay VAT) on the postage costs.

Has anyone ever seen a list of parts that also fit other cars eg brake and clutch seals that we could buy more cheaply at local motor factors and save on the postage?

It may well have been done before but I haven't seen it .

I think it's called the holy grail.

I'm sure these suppliers are not manufacturing parts just for the stag, so they must know what current products fit, but that is why they are suppliers and we are the punters. I've generally taken a bit off my car and gone to the local factors, they can usually look all these things up and come up with an answer. The other avenue is good old Peter Howell. He runs LDPart.co.uk, excellent site for parts and prices good. He is an excellent source of knowledge also, and very helpful.

Agree with this postage scam.....rip off and so blatant. Ever had a look at the postage stamp when you get the goods? Generally a portion of what you've coughed up. Is adding VAT legal on postage?

Don't begrudge anyone making a living, but getting ripped off aggrivates mytolerance levels.

Maybe we should start a thread that captures all this information? Assuming we don't get filtered or edited.

Ebay shops seem the worst culprits. You spot something going for tenner and thing "that's pretty good value", then spot the postage... another tenner on top when the actual cost at the post office would be one pund fifty!

You can certainly get quite a few less esoteric parts locally - temperature senders, brake pad, thermostats, filters and other "service" type things. Many things seem to be the same parts as fitted Jaguar and Landrovers - the fan viscous coupling is the same as an older landrover, the coil ballast resistor is the same as a Jag part. You can even get some parts in Halfords! Fortunately for me, Peter Howells is local. I had some sterling service from him a while ago - ordered some inlet manifold gaskets one afternoon, and he delivered them personally on his way somewhere next morning at 7am! No postage at all.

I have made several orders through ldpart.co.uk and always found the experience superb. Excellent feedback on order status; immediate postage; andcarriage at 'cost'. Just put through another order today. Parts always to OE standard, or a reason why he sells a substitute.

A large number of the parts on the stag are generic for example
            1. Air filter-- VX490/ XJ6
            2. Rear brakes TR6 ( from memory only)
            3. fuel pump-- Jaguar
            4. Steering rack -- (looks a lot like xj6)
            5. oil filter-- Mini (yes MINI)
            6. Carburettors -- lots of cars including Range Rover
            7. Fuel filler -- Land rover (or so I amtold)
            8. Fuel Tank -- Triumph 2.5 Estate
            9. Diff -- Triumph 2.5 estate (change rear mounting plate)
            10. oil pump -- Saab
            hows that for starters

Standard stag thrashed and enjoyed, Nissan Murano ( very underrated, very thirsty, very fast)
