    Exhaust hanger movement

    Quick question.

I know the engine can move backwards slightly under load, but how much could the exhaust hangers move? I say this as I have looked under mine for yet another check for noise through the bodywork and the exhaust bracket is very close to the crossmembers and the hanger attaching to it is about 1/8 away from the crossmember. Part of my problem could be that the metal washer and rubber may be pressing against the crossmember when under load.

Ideally I need to undo the rear exhaust section and push it on further so the hanger and bracket is further away from the crossmember

    Cheers

Coincidence you mention this as two weeks ago I took the rear sections off from the hangers and re-hung them all. I put all the rubber hangers on the back before doing up any of the bolts and made sure the subframe hangers and pipes were well clear of everything.
It's made a bit of difference to the resonance- which is good!

Had a look again and hoping that the hanger is touching the crossmember when on the move. I have now moved it but as you can see the join of the exhaust does not allow me to move it away any more but should be OK now. Cant test drive the car until later and hoping. This is how the hanger was and may be a gap of a match stick between the washer and crossmember

Andrew, I recently fitted a new stainless hanger kit from Paddocks, their washers are smaller diameter than your setup. Can you fit similar sized washers, it may help?

Also, if you think you exhaust is knocking, is the hanger bracket on your overdrive/gearbox OK?

            Cheers

              Andrew,
those hangers should not be sitting back toward the subframe mount like that, i suspect either your rear pipe sections have not been pushed forward enough to cover the ends of the mid box pipes or the mid boxes are too far back meaning the hangers have to sit backward to enable them to close on the pipe (hope this makes sense?)
Looks like your vibe may well be hanger related and/or the mid point mount as Keith says above.

              Cheers!
