Toneau seal

Which is the best/ right one then? I've bought an original type from Paddocks and it doesn't sit right when the lid is downand gets pulled out when the lid is lifted! It's rubbish basically. The one I had before got lost in the workshop and I don't know where I got it from

what one did you buy, the one with the flap or the original type,think i used carpet glue when i fitted it

i had that on mine and i fitted the seal the wrong way, wasnt a new seal though

I want to change mine as every time I close the cover the seal gets stuck in and I have to manipulate it back out with various object! tried gluing but failed, think seal is just too old and past it.. I don't know which seal to get for the better now after reading this thread!

The conclusion at that time seemed to be that there had been two different seals in production. Consensus was that the flap goes towards rear / outside of car. The square section would seem to the popular one today but seems not to allow the metal channel and the water outlet pipes to fulfil their full function. Phoenix supplied a seal which seems to best match the (probable) original found on my car.

Drew, thanks for that. I have the seal fitted so the flap runs along the outside of the car. It seems to be too tall and gets pulled out when the lid is lifted and squashed out of place when the lid is closed!

I have just fitted a new seal to mine the seal is an oblong with a tail from the short side so it goes into the channel short side down and the tail facing outwards if necessary glue the rear long side of the rubber to the inside face of the channel.
Looks right and fits well

thats how I've done it but it seems too big? Just thought it was yet another rubbish part for our cars

The tail on mine sits on top facing outwards and looks correct, I'll take a photo asap.

It has to be re glued as I took it out for re spray. Might use carpet spray like Dave said as there is a bit of give with that, contact adhesive will have no allowance as it has to be stuck on the bottom and the side.

Jeff, thanks for that. Mine looks the same and fits ok along the edges its at the rear where the problem is. Maybe I'll take it out and use some carpet adhesive like Dave says too?
