    Stuck door latch

Hi there, I have spent several hours trying to solve why my door won't open (unlatch) and having removed everything from the door mechanism I can now conclude that it is the actual latch itself and I need to replace it. The only problem is the door is closed! It will open to the primary stage so there is a bit of wriggle room but even with the 'pin' up as far as it will go it wont fully unlatch. It seems I have two options:1 try and drill through to the mechanism from inside the door so I can somehow manually release it or 2 force the door with an air wedge and replace the already broken mechanism. Any feedback would be great especially if you've had a similar issue and also to the effectiveness of an air wedge. btw it is a mk 1 stag but I'm not sure of the lock...?

Hi can you get the door inner panel/card off, then you should be able to release the door lock mech from inside the door,

has it just gone wrong ,or have you been working on the door latch ?

You can also push the latch from the hole where the handle will have been its counter intuitive but is a flat piece on the top of the latching mechanism and IIRC you push towards the interior of the car.

Is the latch possibly loose and 'following' the lock, instead of disengaging? Were you able to fully shut the door? If not, it might the latch has worked loose.

If its a mk2 door, you can get the inner lock mech and outter lock mis aligned, then the lock wont release,i made this mistake once

10 months on and it finally opened!!! In short... I removed all parts and tried drilling through the mechanism itself but it would not budge. I finally resorted to cutting through B pillar and after blunting 4 metal blades I then invested in a heavy duty blade to cut the latch off attached to the B pillar! Hey presto the door opened and once I took the latch off the door I could see the spring had collapse but my drilling wasn't far off! I now need to replace all parts for the spares box...anybody know how to attach a mk1 handle to mk2 mechanism???
