I was back tracking through some old threads on penetrating oil and the properties of WD40 vs Plusgas etc. I have worked in the oil and gas business for over 35 years and have been involved in working on plant that hasn't been touched for years. Before we go into a plant shutdown we often change out flange bolts one by one while the plant is still live to save time during the shutdown. This process is known as "hot bolting" Due to lack of maintenance we come across many nuts and bolts that are so badly corroded we cannot undo them. I searched the web for information on how to overcome this. The feedback was amazing. The best solution was to apply Coca Cola to the bolts every day for a few days before you plan to undo them. Believe me this works. God knows what CC does to our body

Thanks for that John.
I've heard about that for ages but have never tried it thinking that, perhaps, there was a little bit of 'old wives tale' to it. However, hearing it from someone who has real professional experience is very useful.
Btw I always thought that WD40 wasn't particularly good at releasing nuts - better at it's designed job of Water Dispersant. I've heard Kroil highly recommended, although very hard to find in the UK.
Cheers
Julian

Coke is a weak acid ,rather like vinegar ,loves to eat rust
I use it overnight to clean electrical bits and bobs .
I even rescued my fuse box by soaking it in a bowl of coke and vinegar solution, comes out all gleaming and new . (Ex-science teacher
not!)
