I have been restoring my seats today and found a faded maker pen writing on the back of the passenger head rest
Does anyone know what any of it means?
Apart from the date of course
IMHO this could read 629169 or even 629104 or 629164 - look at format of first 6 and also first 9? Perhaps Dasadrew you could look these up as parts list other than Rimmers etc is something I have no copy of ?

Well, I had a distributor who did this sort of thing, incremented a number and then ordered it; didn't make it a part number, a number is not guess-able, it is what it is!!
1973 Stag (called Stanley), White, ongoing work in progress.

There are no part numbers in my lists which start with 6291. If I thought that this quest had any purpose than to satisfy curiosity, I'd perhaps try to pursue it further but I'm afraid I'll have to leave it at that for this time around!
I have the very dubious claim to fame of having been the youngest BL Parts manager in the country at one time
On numerous occasions, customers came in with 'part numbers' that they'd taken off all sorts of parts. They always seemed very similar to real part numbers but almost NEVER were real part numbers . I raised this with the Home Order Control section at Canley and even they never found an explanation for these misleading numbers
Austin Morris were just the same as Rover Triumph in this respect.
If it the inside of the headrest maybe its the internal part number without the exterior covering that was used by the factory. That's if you could not buy it without the outside. when you ordered the headrest it had part number for a complete covered in what ever colour. Just a thought. Dave
