Heads are off

My stag has been away at my brother in laws garage for the last week having the heads removed. He has just called to let me know they are off I will be picking the heads up on Sunday as he's keeping the car to drop the sump and change the big end and mains shells. He said the heads were a job to remove as there were 3 sheared studs on one side and 2 on the other. Once he's replaced the shells the car is coming back to me to put back together. I will post some pictures when I pick the heads up..

What technique did he use to get them off with the studs sheared ?

Dynamite Julian ha ha . No he used the rope trick to lift the heads then cut the studs. We tried all sorts of ways to get the other 5 studs out heat, soaking with penetrating oil, welding nuts on etc but they all sheared off. Glad they are off though. He will be replacing the bearing shells next week. I am not sure if they need doing but I thought while he's got the car and a ramp its might as well be done. Much easier than lying on your back under the car. I was inspired to do this by your previous thread on the subject.

Yep, if you've got the car on a ramp it's not too hard to drop the cross member and the sump and it's always gooid to know what it's like in there
