The Stag you see that made you want one.

Does anyone else remember seeing a particular stag and having an impact of I want one of those.

I remember in the seventies near Newmarkets July racecourse seeing a pimento red one(didnt know at the time it was called pimento red) and thought that looks good and bearing in mind I was heavily into motorbikes at the time for a car to make that sort of impact it must have looked smart in my eyes.

The same thing happened when I saw a Triumph Trident T160in yellow and white with rayguns outside Freddie Mayes motorbike shop in Mill Rd Cambridge and decided I want oneexactly like that.

Both vehicles I now own although I have a white stag nowafter my red one got written off and my fondness for both has never waned

Can't remember the exact one but I have wanted one for years. I could now kick myself for not buying one MUCH sooner! I remember reading an article in a magazine about the Stag when I was 13 and deciding there and then that I would have one of these cars 'one day'! I waited far too long:shock:

It was actually a TR4 but when my wife sat in one, her knees were up round the steering wheel with the seat right back and that was without the kids in the back, so a Stag was the next logical step!

Top Trumps c. 1976 - it was a white one which i remember being on a boat ramp in a harbour somewhere. 3ltr and V8 were a good hand to have!

Finally realised the dream this year with my own white one and just got back from a trip to sunny Leigh on Sea and some cockles....great day for October

My uncle had a brand new one in the early 70's when i was a kid. He didn't use it much because he had a bad back and it hurt him to drive it so he brought a Vauxhall Viva !

It must have had an impact on me because when i set out to buy a four seat convertible it had to be a Stag !

BTW my aunt still has the car in my cousins garage, but i don't think it's turned a wheel for years.

It would be nice to see though !

I had a Mk4 Spitfire in my youth and recall the derisory "looks like a small Stag". But I never wanted one until looking around to replace my jallopy late 80's and the jellymoulds were taking over. Looking for something different (and I nearly bought a Maestro - how sad is that ) I recalled my ultra reliable Triumph which decided me. Yes I was laughed at, I saw some real horrors when "classic" meant you could sell junk with another zero on the price andclassifieds in the mag were gone before you got the mag.

              But I found it.

              And the rust. :X

One day it will see the light of day again, meantime my other keeps me smiling.

When I traded in my Mk3 Spitfire for a Mk4 in 1972 there was a Stag in the same showroom but it was a little over a £1,000 more - almost double the Spitfire price. I turned my head away but made a mental note that one day I would have one. It was 22 years later before that dream came true.

Back in the early '80s, my parents two Triumphs.. a yellow Dolomite and a red Spitfire. The guy next door got a Stag when I was about 7.. it was red and had a yellow hardtop.

It seemed like the perfect combination to seven year old me..

Watching James Hazell aka Nicholas Ball in the late 70's drive a BRG Stag. Always wanted one since then.

Saw what must have been one of the first stags when I was at Primary school - an open top car like that was very unusual in a small village in deepest darkest Somerset.
The flame was rekindled with Hazell & occasional sightings as the years went by.
Had mine for 2 1/2 years & still pause to look when I open the garage door!

Bit tenuous this but I'm remember watching a TV programme that featured a Stag back in the late '80s or early '90s. The main character was played by Ray Brooks ( Big Deal and more recently East Enders) and his partner was Sharon Duce (also in Big Deal)

I can't remember much about the programme or what it was called but the sub plot was the on-going Stag restoration and it made me think " I must get myself a Stag one day"

Anyone any idea what I'm on about?

                          Hi Kevin,

If I remember rightly you are on about "Growing Pains", which was about a middle aged couple who decide to become foster parents.
