    Speedo Cables

This morning I fitted my sixth speedo cable in 18 months as the latest one failed on Tuesday evening. They have all snapped in the same place approximately 2 inches outside the gearbox which is about the straightest part of the cable run. I have fitted a brand new old stock speedo which works perfectly with no needle bounce what so ever and I have replaced the 21 tooth plastic speedo drive gear on the BW65. Do you think this is just an issue with poor quality parts or is something else a miss? I've even resorted to buying two at a time now so I always have a spare.

Look forward to you thoughts on this.

    Cheers Steve

    Hi steve
I had a problem with cables and speedos on my BW35 box.
No matter what i did on the car the speedo always wavered, tried new speedo, second hand speedo, rebuilt speedo, 3 cables from different suppliers, Arghhhhhh!
If i ran the speedo on a drill, no wavering, as soon as i put the drill on the cable and put a slight curve on it, the blooming thing waivered again. So i did what any saNe person would do, dumped the lot and bought a smiths flight speedo. Now electronic, so can calibrate to any tyre size, and any diff ratio. Result. The only thing that was a bit fiddly was the sender drive, but managed to sort it really easy in the end using an after market one, a dab of jb weld, and bits off the old cable.
Give me a pm if you want to know more. No more duff parts for this particular bit of the car

      Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply. I have bought a digital speedo to sit on the dash for emergencies. I was hoping for some more ideas but I guess if it keeps happening I may need to consider a more permanent modern fix. My speedo needle does not bounce at all when everything is working that's why I am just a bit p****d off about how often I am replacing cables. I will see how long this one lasts but may be in touch to get some info on your set up. Was it expensive?

      Thanks, Steve

        Hi steve
The speedo was about £170 and the sender £30. The beauty of it is that it fits the dash and looks period. Okay, not original but at least it works. If you are feeling flush, you can get the rev counter to match too!.
Good luck with the latest cable, hope it lasts.
