Does your other half share your Stag passion?

Was re-organising some photos on the PC when I came across in the Stag folder this photo of a couple of Stags seen in New Zealand when we paid a visit there 3 years ago.

The blue and carmine Stags shown belong to husband and wife Ian and Heather Skene, and have almost identical number plates (can you see the difference?) and Ian & Heather looked after us for the day when we berthed in Tauranger during our Polynseian Cruise (to celebrate my 70th birthday and our 40th Wedding Anniversary).

They took us out in their Stags (accompanied by 5 other Stags) whilst we were there, and both seemed to share an equal passion for their cars, although Ian did run an “S” type Jaguar as well as his everyday car.

My wife likes my Stag but prefers to drive her own Honda and would definitely say NO to the purchase of a 2nd Stag.

Have we got any couples on the Forum that each own a Stag of their own I wonder?

I suspect my wife is more passionate about her piles than my Stag.

Same here, but she doesn't have piles. Has absolutely no interest whatever in any car - to her they are just a means of getting from A to B.

But then I have no interest in her craft stuff either.

Mine has a 1965 Commer Camper van, a 1959 Hillman Minx and has recently after a change of career direction sold her A4 convertible and bought a Moggy Traveller as her everyday car.
The moggy was a bit of an impulse buy on my part and to be honest I really like it (must be getting old) my wife obviously likes Classic Cars and does like my Stag and does drive it occasionally. The only problem is I have to maintain them all, spent 4 hours of my holiday wiring up the overdrive and fitting a reversing light on the Commer yesterday but we will use it to camp at the TR meet at Malvern next weekend.

It was the other way around with us: I've always been into (classic) cars, by it was my girlfriend that took a real liking to the Stag after seeing the one in Gaydon. So I ended up buying one. :-)
I did enjoy driving it, or being driven in it and we do miss it a lot. It was the perfect car for the typical classic car runs in Flanders and great for traveling as well. I still keep an eye on the classifieds for a possible replacement...

Sounds very familiar........ I could have written that myself.

Mine is fond of the Stag --she's always pleased when I drive off in it

She's not really interested in cars other than a way to get around. That said, she's happy for me to have toys I like to play with, and the Stag is one of them. The workshop is my 'Playpen', and sometimes if I'm naughty I get sent off to it.

Up to now I've resisted any desire to explain that the punishment is perhaps not having the intended effect

Dave - When I got married in '74 I was driving a Mk4 Triumph Spitfire but my wife had never bothered to learn to drive. When she first became pregnant 2 years later she decided she wanted a car of her own in which she could fit a pram, so we purchased a 2nd hand Morris Traveller as a 2nd car and put a set of "L" plates on it.

She passed her test in the car whilst heavily pregnant and at first didn't like driving it finding it large and cumbersome compared to the Spitfire. However some years later when we sold it (the wood was seriously rotting), she cried as she had by then fallen in love with it. I had liked it to as it was so simple and so easy to work on.

She has owned a few cars since then but her all time favourite was a red Mk2 Honda Prelude on which she put on more than 100,000 miles.

My wife has no real interest in cars, including Triumph Stags, apart from as a more attractive alternative to public transport. She tolerates my obsession and even comes to some of the shows with me. She does seem to think that my other classic car, a Singer Chamois, is "cool," though.

My wife is definitely a bit of a petrol head and would happily drive her own Stag as a daily driver if only it was possible. Will have to get "my" Stag back on the road first before considering buying another one.... Her favourite car that she's owned is a '98 Saab convertible which she adored until it was written off in a bad collision a five years ago.

Then again she's also partial to classic Jags, and in particular the original Jag S-Type, so one of them might be our next project should I ever get the Stag sorted.

                        Cheers,
                        Joakim

Mine loves to drive and be seen in the Stag, and has a soft spot for my tatty old Mk1 Vitesse too...

She also owns/shares her MGB Roadster auto with my daughter - my daughter loves the B, but she covets the Stag so much I'm thinking of getting a food taster

My son however, loves the Stag but covets the Vitesse, and wants it for his first car...

My wife liked the Stag up until its recent restoration, where money emptied out of the bank account quicker than water out the bath!!!

She did admit to kind of missing it though, however, she really misses her ST Focus since we bought a sensible car!

What does Michelle expect? Tell her she'll be spending at least that much on you, when you're that old and worn out? And since when has an Evoque been a car? More like a posh truck innit?

For the record Kath loves the Stag, but only when it is used as intended; gorgeous sunny days, toddling down country lanes, top down at 40-50 mph. Any major distance and she'd prefer the modern, faster, quieter, cheaper etc......Think she'd be heartbroken if we parted with it though? Son No. 1 is now insured for it though and drove it for the first time on Sunday - now where did I hide those keys.......
