Don't know how Webbs have done shows for free for the last 20years then. But then they don't have traders it's just a static show. As for being a Billy no mates, I didn't buy a classic car just to make friends!
Have to agree, £30 pp is a little steep.

Difficult one this, having been involved in pulling large club shows together I know what expenses there can be. Then there are the folk that give up their time to make it happen.

The point about paying to show your car, then they charge the public to see your car is a valid one but overheads for these things can be astronomical, for instance: toilet facilities, security and marshaling, pitch fees to mention a few. Myself and a few others payout £100's to book and make the SOC stand happen at the Bromley Pageant. We get it back from the club afterwards but my point is these things cost and it has to be covered.

Its a bit like income tax! It has been know for years that the optimum level is about 35%, above that people change their behaviour, and below that you don't collect as much as you could. I went to Malvern for the 1st time on Sat and was shocked at the price, but as I had not been before (and was travelling on my own) decided to go in. However, judging by the number of cars I saw doing a U turn at the entrance, they may not have hit the optimum price.

The TR Register is holding it's next 2 International Weekend meetings at Lincoln, so it's possible that the Malvern showgrounds fees charged to them have increased to a level where they feel it can't be justified or recovered from the members.

ah it was you, saw you at the entrance and the next thing you were heading out the gate, don't blame you at those prices.

We just checked out what we paid for the joint TR/SOC event last year and it was double the weekend price we paid this year is that because the SOC we're involved? This year we paid a fiver for electric hook up for the whole weekend last year at the joint event it was £30. Another bonus this year of paying the £29 in advance was free beer at the bar on Friday night due to the TR guys running their own bar and saving money which was passed on to their members and a few interlopping Stag owners. For £29 it was a cracking weekend with something going on over the whole weekend rather than just the Sunday as per the SOC event, the TR guys don't seem to bother with the Saturday evening sit down meal like the SOC put on but all gather for one event on the campsite which I prefer but others may prefer a suited and booted sit down meal, each to their own. I will be going to next years event because it's in Lincoln which for me is a bonus.

Talking to some of the organisers they realise they got the "on the day" entry prices wrong.
It is a new leadership and committee running the Register and they are really trying to improve the club after a few issues over recent years.
I was told that the weekend runs at a loss to the Register due to the charges of the showground etc.
As others have said, the advance prices were pretty reasonable, but it was realised that the day entry prices were too high - putting people off and (my view) probably resulting in a reduced take on the gate overall.
