    Vr1 oil

Hi all, I know there have been loads of threads about this subject but without all the technical jargon could somebody answer this question. You should use VR1 oil in your car because..........................................a nd is it wise to put some oil in the oil filter before starting the car?

    Thanks

    Mark

Because it retains its viscosity for longer, has a high zinc content for the wiping cam followers, and it will give you better oil pressure than the common 20/50.

Up to you to part fill the oil filter - I never do

I always part fill the oil filter - no reason not to? And it reduces the time the starter has to churn before the oil pump fills it and brings the pressure up. (I always do that with the ignition disabled - don't like running engines with zero oil pressure for a while).
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

....and I would simply add to Russ's answer by including better oil consumption and less blue smoke. Somewhere on the Forum I think someone explained the chemical reasons in terms of polywhatsits and big numbers if you really need to know how and why it does it better than other oils. It works, period!

I generally find with the element oil filters most of the oil runs out the bolt hole and up my arm while fitting and tightening, so that's mainly why I don't bother, and the spin on type are so small the pump has filled them by the time the engine has spun for 2 or 3 seconds

                    VR-1 Racing 20w/50 mineral oil...

Used some today in an Alvis TF21 engine - had Millers in it, which I was asked to use last time, but the VR1 has increased hot idle oil pressure by 15psi...

+1 don't seem to get an oily arm, on normal cold starting I always wind/crank the engine over until the oil light goes out then pull the choke out and away we go.

Still thinking over my next oil change & putting in VALVOLINE VR1 Racing 20W-50 Engine Oil.
Euro Parts have it on offer at present £5.29p per litre bottle = £ 26.45p & same for a 5ltr can £26.45p plus free delivery if I don't want to leave the house to collect it.
Doing only less than 1,000 miles a year - is it worth it as I change the oil yearly or can it be extended to every 2 years at this mileage ?

A lot depends on whether, when you do use the car, it runs for long enough to boil off start-up contaminants from the oil.
