    Why oh why

I'm doing some stuff on the Alvis before it goes off on a trot around France, and it struck me of a similarity between the Stag and the TF21 exhaust, in that it passes through a chassis member and has a joint there too.

We've all fought the good fight, and usually failed where it hangs and clamps, resulting in a chuff and/or banging against the subframe.

Alvis have a different approach, and to be honest it is genius in its simplicity and ease to assemble. It also just works!

Have a look.... I'm sure it could be easily adapted to the Stag...

My TD21 always had problems at this point - usually the exhaust banging against the chassis. Probably due to inaccuracies in the shape of the stainless exhaust.

I have never had a problem with the Triumph system so long as some bright spark hasn't discarded the correct subframe mounting and tried to replace it weith a U bolt....

That looks like a much better idea to me Russ, the fact it is resting on a rubber mount rather than being hung by a tightly clamped bolt with some insulators of very dubious sound resistance appeals to me. I've got mine hung with superflex bushes but I'm sure they are not as sound absorbing as good rubber ones
